Service Projects

Service to our local community and to the greater community is a tenet of our faith, which is practiced throughout the school year at St. Joseph Catholic School. A few of the service projects we participate in are: 

TAG Day: On the third Thursday of each month, students may come out of uniform by bringing 50 cents and a canned good. The canned goods are donated to the Food Pantry at St. Joseph Church. 

Service Projects by grade levels: Students in the Primary, Intermediate, and Middle School grades select different times throughout the year to do a drive that best fits the needs of a ministry that is in alignment with the teaching of the Catholic Church. Clothing/blanket drives for Catholic Charities is just one example of a grade level service project. 

Cougar Mall: While learning about the economy, second grade students make items to sell at their store in the Cougar Mall, as seen in the photo above. They are responsible for brainstorming an idea, discussing it with their parents, crafting the idea, creating their store front, and producing a commercial for the Cougar Mall. The proceeds from the Mall are used to help local charities.

Seminarian Support: As a school, we pray weekly for vocations. In order to help support the men preparing for the priesthood, we “adopt” two seminarians. Periodically throughout the year, we send care packages and spiritual bouquets to the seminarians to support them in their journey to the priesthood.

Catholic Schools’ Week: During Catholic Schools’ Week each year, the entire school community participates in several service projects. The students make lunches, make rosaries, and make cards during the week. Additionally, each year the parents choose a local charity or service organization and collect items for the charity. 

Faculty and Staff: Our faculty and staff also participate in service events. We partner with St. Joseph Catholic Church to provide and serve breakfast at a local homeless shelter before the start of the school day. Additionally, twice a year the faculty and staff will help prepare and serve breakfast at St. Francis Table at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Atlanta.
