Math

Our goal for mathematics in the primary department is for students to develop a strong number sense.  Through explicit teaching, our students learn to understand quantities, compare numbers, recognize the relationships between numbers, develop useful strategies when counting, measuring, or estimating, and distinguish how numbers are affected by operations, such as addition and subtraction.  Our teachers use a variety of methods to teach these mathematical concepts, such as explicit teaching, the use of manipulatives, the use of computer programs, and math talks.
