Service
Projects
Service to our
local community and others in need is a tenet that is
practiced throughout the entire school year at St. Joseph
Catholic School. A few of the service projects we
participate in are:
TAG Day:
On the third Thursday of each month, students may come
out of
uniform by bringing 50 cents and a canned good. The canned
goods are donated to MUST Ministries, and other special
collections take place such as items for animal shelters,
needed items for senior citizens at Christmas, and school
supplies for under-privileged areas.
Advent Giving Project: Students adopt
families in need and learn about them. They provide
clothing items and other Chritsmas gifts for
these families and help to wrap and deliver the
presents.
Catholic Schools' Week:
During Catholic Schools' Week each year, the
entire school community participates in several service
projects. Each year we make sandwiches for MUST Ministries
and rosaries for our sister parish in Honduras. Also,
each year a different local charity or service organization
is chosen and items needed by that organization are collected
and donated by our families.
Lighthouse Family Retreat: For the past
five years, our school has raised money for the Lighthouse
Family Retreat.
Lighthouse helps children with
cancer and their families by providing a place
where these families can rest, regroup and become connected
as a family again by sending them to the beach for a
week. Each year our students seem to surpass themselves
with creative projects to raise money for this most worthy
cause. This past school year we had our famous Cougar
Mall, a Read-a-Thon, Candy Grams, and a Snowflake Raffle
just to name a few! Our
school community raises enough
money to send several families to the beach each
year.
